Race Against The Outspark Staff Event
July 23rd, 2009
At 1:00 p.m. PST this Thursday, July 23, a bunch of the Outspark Staff logged on Project Powder to play with the users.
Most of us joined rooms that were already created, sometimes finding other Outspark players from the office within the room, which would always result in some office trash talking during and after the race.
Personally, I played mostly battle, but also did race and coin mode. After talking with other people in the office about it, a lot of us shared a similar experience. We’d feel like we were doing well, but then get passed at the last second because of some short cut we missed!

It was really run and we look forward to the next.
There were also premium items given away randomly to users online.
If you missed your opportunity, we will have another event next Thursday at 1:00 p.m. PST again with even more premium prizes to give away.
Also keep an eye out for new Kudos Items coming out, and new maps.

What Kind Of Leveler Are You?
July 21st, 2009
For all you people who either decided not to compete in the race to 1,000,000 SparkCash event, or just don’t have the time to compete, but wonder how you’d do if you did, here’s a fun little check list that will help you figure out exactly what kind of leveler you are. Keep track how many of these questions you can say “yes” to and look at the results to find out how you did!
1. I have used a clock to estimate how long it takes for me to gain experience, or gain a level.
2. I have thought about leveling while I am at school or work.
3. I have successfully done homework while leveling
4. I have used, even once, paper and pencil or a word document to map out leveling strategies.
5. I have used a calculator to try and determine how long it will take to level in one place in comparison to another, or how long it will take to complete a level.
6. There are certain clothes I like to wear while I level that I am convinced help me do it faster.
7. I have perspired due to the extreme focus I have while destroying packs of monsters.
8. I have had a dream that I was leveling.
9. I have written “lvl” on an essay and couldn’t figure out why the spell checker thought it was wrong.
10. I have made an analogy out of leveling and something in real life, and then realized shortly after that it was a terrible analogy that didn’t even make sense. Such examples would include: “Leveling is like making friends in high school; at first it feels like an effort, but after a while you’ll have to stop yourself from doing it so you can get enough sleep.”
Checklist Results:
I have answered yes to:
0 questions: I am definitely not a hardcore leveler and will never be!
1-2 questions: I have it in me to be a hardcore leveler, but I usually focus on other things, like making in game money or leveling up a profession, because that’s more rewarding!
3-4 questions: I tend to go on leveling-sprees, but not very consistently. Also, when people level faster than me I wish bad things upon them!
5-6 questions: I am a pretty hardcore leveler, but I know of people that are more hardcore than me—and I don’t envy them, I swear!
7-8 questions: I have never met someone who is more of a hardcore leveler than I am, and I’m convinced if someone answered “yes” to more questions than me, then it just means these questions are stupid!
9 questions: I am the ultimate leveler! All other dedicated levelers should bow down to me because their skills do not compare!
10 questions: I am the ultimate leveler! All other dedicated levelers should bow down to me because their skills do not compare! However, my analogy skills are very poor.

The Level Craze On Cypion
July 14th, 2009
Must level faster!

There’s lots of buzz going on about the new server that opened up, Cypion. Most people are probably aware of the Race for 1,000,000 Spark Cash event and the dedication that many users have demonstrated while competing to be the highest level. However it may not be so clear that leveling isn’t simply a measure of time, it’s also a skill.
When Cypion opened June 3rd, thousands of users immediately created characters there. To many players, the process of leveling may appear simply as a grind that they might or might not enjoy as much as the many other aspects of the game. The rest look at leveling like a test where there’s always room for improvement. These gamers will keep track of how long it takes to reach each level, and constantly try out new places, new approaches to questing, and different variations of premium items to aid them in their challenge. They love the process of self improvement and cherish any minute they can shave off the time it takes to level.
Outspark wishes to reward the people who have grasped this leveling process so firmly that they get to the level cap first. That’s why the Race for 1,000,000 Spark Cash event began with the opening of Cypion June 3rd, because everyone started as level 1, creating an even playing field.
Starting July 1st, the one million Spark Cash started to decrease by 350 every hour. Once the first player has achieved level 105, the Spark Cash amount displayed will be locked for that player. The ticker will continue for the 2nd and 3rd place player. The Spark Cash ticker will lock in respectively for 2nd and 3rd place.
Check out the blog Thursday for a checklist to find out what kind of leveler you are, and make sure to keep your eyes on the leaderboard!
